Improvement of Spark Ignition of Lean Mixtures in a Fast Gas Flow
Fuel/air mixture in gasoline engines is ordinarily ignited by spark discharge with an ignition plug. For lean mixtures, it is important to ensure ignition and subsequent flame propagation even in a fast gas flow. In this research, the shape of ignition plugs is varied, and their ignition characteristics of lean mixtures in a fast gas flow are experimentally studied to establish reliable ignition method.
